Stewardship. A long church word I never really paid attention to. But I guess as you mature you begin to take notice of those things that some time ago you could not sense would be applicable to your life. I got a job promotion and a raise last week. So as any good son would, I called my parents to let them know their Christmas presents would be slightly upgraded this year. Mama proceeds to give me the God Lord blessing speech and she mentioned stewardship.
It seems that stewardship is similar to utilizing your assets. It’s simply taking whatever situation or circumstance you are in and making the best of it. I thought back about all of my previous jobs and in taking stock, I found that every job I received was slightly better than the one before. Whether it was a little more money, or better supervisors, or more responsibility or more freedom, each job was a little step higher. This review yielded the essence of stewardship – simply being faithful in all kinds of weather. I’ve never been one to call in sick all the time, shirk my job duties or worry about what the employee next to me is doing. As long as the checks are being issued regularly, I think I should be working regularly. And in doing so, it seems my stewardship to the employment blessing God has afforded me has yielded another blessing.
No I’m not suggesting that we can earn blessings. But I think the parable of the guys with the talents is an example of what can be gained when we stop complaining and live the life that God has for us at this moment. Nothing is forever but I guess He is constantly testing us. Logically, why should God bless us with a million dollars and we can’t manage 200 dollars? Why would He give you a husband or a wife and you can’t maintain a stable relationship with a girlfriend or boyfriend? It’s kind of like credit I guess – as your level of faith and stewardship increases, the amount of blessings He will give you increases. It makes sense; no need to waste good help on someone who won’t use it right and thus won’t thank Him and appreciate what they have been given.
Guess it’s house shopping time. I think I’ll forgo the Ds on that Cadillac and get a roof over my head. Lol.
