2But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.
3And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
4These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
5And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
6These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
7And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
8And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
9And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.
10And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.
11And after three days and an half the spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.
12And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them. Revelation 11:1-12
After Jesus these 2 witnesses are my favorite people in the Bible. Unlike any other person or thing in the Bible these 2 witnesses were given absolute power over earth for a season to judge and torment the entire earth. How many times have we heard of some man abusing a child or a woman being beaten by her husband or some looter robbing poor people's homes after a natural disaster and we all thought that a special type of punishment should be meted out to these especially cruel individuals. These 2 witnesses were given that power. They could preach you a sermon and then send locusts to plague your house because you thought church was a game. You don't believe that God controls the sun - how about we blot it out for the next 96 hours and after your eyes adjust to the darkness, then let it blind you for the next 96 hours straight. Maybe then you will give God some credit. Oh you think that because of your own hardwork and good deeds you have a home then explain why you can't get into your house when 1 of those winesses puts a ring of fire around your house for 6 months and you have to sleep on the curb with a pocket full of money from all of your hardwork. These witnesses can cloud your entire day when you dont give God praise for the sun. They can turn your water to blood when you dont thank God for the rain. Instant consequences for lukewarm Christians; instant death for touching one of his prophets. And then after they are finally killed by the enemy, in 3 and a half days they throw up the duece and ride out on a cloud leaving their haters in awe and disgust, stuck on an Earth that is about to be destroyed. How awesome is that to have the last laugh over humanity. Amazing to be so untouchable through the power of God. We are afforded similar protection now, we just aren't given the ability to breathe fire on our enemies and consume them. Most people just have hot breath but not hot fiery breath and that is sufficient to keep most people at bay...
