The world is full of interesting people. I recently met one of these unique individuals and what a “fresh” perspective he added to the idea of infidelity (look it up).
I met this gent at a social gathering at a friend’s house. He is the cousin of my friend. They are related but totally unrelated on infidelity.
He is married. Unhappily, it seems, for about 6 years. The topic of cheating came up between a few of us when he said he had to go to Atlanta the following weekend to visit a “friend” that his wife certainly would not have approved. Of course some smart guy decided to ask him why he cheated. Yea, I know the code…men don’t ask each other why we cheat. It’s just understood…and if you don’t personally agree you still don’t break the code.
His answer. Wow. This is where it got interesting.
Have you ever had someone give the most unlikely answer to a question and even though somehow it’s still not a justification it is so logical you just gotta say “hmm, can’t really argue with that.”
He told us that he only cheats on his wife with women from out of town. At first, logic says it’s because he doesn’t want to get caught. Sorry..not quite.
He said because he didn’t want to make his wife look stupid in the community. An example he gave was say if your wife/girlfriend was a prostitute…would you keep her? 9 out of 10 men would say no. Why? Because we don’t want to be associated with that type of woman because it makes us look bad, even if we had feelings.
Damn. This cat is sharp. Here is where the logic got twisted.
He said the same with his wife. He said when you cheat on your significant other and other people, friends, family etc. see it, the first thing they say about her is that she’s naïve, dumb, and stupid. And in turn..what does that say about a man who has chosen a naïve, dumb and stupid woman? That he is also as dumb as she is if he’s staying with her.
He said the same way you can’t justify being with a hooker, you can’t justify being with someone who will allow themselves to be constantly degraded and disrespected. He said if you cheat outside the city and NO ONE knows..then your wife maintains her status as a devoted wife to a good man and the man also maintains his reputation as being wise enough to pick such a smart woman.
He said it’s a win/win situation.
We all just looked at him. The only argument one could give would be to say you shouldn’t be cheating which would break the man code.
I’m still trying to fathom how he got so logically twisted..smh
